What is Stroke?

Stroke is...

  • a health problem causing long-term disabilities, including the need for help with daily activities and participation (Tadi et al. 2021)

  • expected to drastically increase in prevalence due to a continuously growing number of the aging population (Feigin et al. 1990)

  • causing a higher risk of developing other cardiovascular diseases (Boehme et al. 2017)

  • leading to a decrease in physical activity

  • is closely related to health problems

  • a reason for higher hospitalisation rates

An increase in physical activity can lead to an improvement of physical functionality. It could reduce the recurrence risk of cardiovascular diseases in people who have suffered from a stroke, and might lead to a better quality of life without severe limitations (Kernan et al. 2014).

A home exercise programme has shown to be a valuable addition to conventional physiotherapy, done in a physiotherapeutic clinic. Home exercise programmes have several benefits, among which effectiveness of long-term rehabilitation results.
